Work in Progress
I was asked to be part of a collective of sculptors to create works for Yinka Shinobare for the Venice Biennial 2024. We were asked to re create works of art known as The Benin Bronzes which reside in the British Museum at the moment. This was interesting and challenging work, recreating in clay work originally made in Bronze.
I have been involved in a project called Myfish GY (Grimsby) where I have been taking workshops in the community to create fish that are then animated and will be shown in Grimsby showing the animated fish in October. I designed the large logo and the logo with text after a workshop with Grimsby Institute students.

Here’s a piece where a video is included if you scroll down, where I am glimpsed chatting with Sean Canning, Creative Lead and Artistic Director at MyFishGY.
People of Grimsby encouraged to design fish for local heritage project
I finished a commission in July 2022 from the Isle of Axholme Land Partnership, Lincolnshire Council and the Canal and Rivers Trust. This piece was made for ‘Art on the Greenway’ a series of 5 commissions by different artists to encourage visitors to areas in Axholme. There are more images on the sculpture page
New in the ‘PAINTINGS’ menu are my racehorses. Inspired by a visit to the Doncaster Sales and Races at Market Rasen. I took some photos and have translated them into paintings. I’m trying a new way of painting with a filbert brush. Check out my Etsy page www.etsy.com/uk/shop/DesignedbyDeborahD for my on-line gallery where I will be adding more work.
Post – Recent Work
Women’s Work, submitted to Teignmouth Trail Exhibition won ‘Best Artist’ Award, the highest award at the exhibition. I was then invited to exhibit it at the Devon Guild of Craftsmen Exhibition at the Riverside Gallery in Bovey Tracey in October 2018. It is now on display at Mount Pleasant Gardens, Chester.
‘Women’s Work’ is made from recycled car body panels and the base is an industrial mixing bowl. I made it in response to the public saying they were surprised that ‘Transcription’ was made by a woman. I also wanted to make something feminine to celebrate 100 years since women gained the right to vote.
